The Elk Rut in Ricky Mountain National Park attracts thousands of visitors every year, and for good reason. From mid September to Mid October, Colorado Elk hers gather in large numbers on low lying meadows in the Park, and spectacular scenes of bravery and dare-do ensue that are simply breath-taking and humbling. Join me and my camera as we witness the very stuff of life.

I was out in Roxborough Park at sunrise, after a thunderstorm and downpour the previous night, and saw these mule deer bucks and the turkey vulture perched on the chimney of a cabin in the park.

These encounters with elk in the Rocky Mountain National Park document a visceral experience that helped me to rediscover of earth's beauty and to celebrate the grace and power of these beautiful animals. Shot on one day, it remains an unforgettable adventure!
